PROJECT 5: Edwin Abbot Abbott—Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions

Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions is the timeless memoir of asentient being.

Edwin Abbot Abbott (Marylebone, Middlesex, England, 1838–1926) was headmaster of the City of London School; a Shakespearean expert whose scholarly contributions include Shakespearian Grammar (1870); and a theologian who wrote on the lives of saints and various philosophical matters. He is most remembered for an aberrant work, his novella Flatland (1884), a proto-sci-fi critique of Victorian society that conceived of a fourth dimension in advance of the theory of relativity.
